Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST)

Many patients who have undergone  the Pinhole Surgical Technique say afterwards how minimally invasive the entire process is. The procedure involves taking a special instrument and making a very small hole to loosen the gum tissue and move it to other areas in the mouth where there is gum recession.

Treatment is done using a local anesthetic, and afterwards the results are long term with most cases maintaining their gum coverage several years later.

Gum recession is just one of the signs of gum disease, but can also be caused by using the wrong tooth brushing technique or
as a side effect of certain medications that increase the risk of periodontal disease. Traditional gum surgery and some orthodontic treatments can also cause gum recession because healthy tissue has to be removed to eradicate the infection.

Unlike gum grafting procedures, there is no cutting of the gum tissue involved. If you are concerned about receding gums and want to explore alternatives to gum grafting, let our office know!

Gum recession can weaken teeth, cause sensitivity, root damage and even tooth loss if left untreated.
Receding gums also age your smile. Don't put off your smile rejuvenation!

Benefits to (PST) Vs Gum Surgery

The benefits to having the Pinhole Surgical Technique vs. traditional gum surgery include:
  • Immediate cosmetic benefits
  • Corrects the gum recession without surgery
  • Faster recovery and healing time

The Pinhole Surgical Technique PST was invented and patented by John Chao, D.D.S. and has been deemed a 'breakthrough' technique
